Repair Is Beautiful by Paulo Goldstein

Repair Is Beautiful by Paulo Goldstein
Repair Is Beautiful is the title of Central Saint Martins student Paulo Goldstein's final collection, whereby he fixes broken everyday items using limited resources and a Hack-tivate approach.

His final collection (first featured on Homebuildlife here) comprises four separate items: a lamp, a pair of headphones, a chair and an iPod Shuffle, which all appear far from their original states.

Imposing a specific restriction on each repair, including limited resources and planning, Paulo even recovered bone from leftover meals to innovatively fix an iPod.

The Shops at Target: Polka Dog Bakery

Polka Dog Bakery for Target

Polka Dog Bakery's founders, Rob Van Sickle and Deb Gregg, launched their pastry shop 10 years ago in honour of a one-eyed rescue dog named Pearl, and have been feeding the Boston dog population ever since.

Now part of the The Shops at Target initiative, which launched over the weekend, they talk to WGSN-homebuildlife about their inspirations and the collaboration that is set to make their brand a household name.

Polka Dog Bakery at Target

Van Sickle and Gregg believe that their commitment to fresh ingredients and quality control, borne of being a small and hands-on business, is the secret of their success. "In this environment, with dog food recalls and product safety concerns coming out almost daily, I think it gives our customers peace of mind to know exactly what they are feeding their dogs and where it comes from. Since we have our own kitchen, and source our own raw materials, we can track our products from the supplier to the bakery to the stores."

Polka Dog Bakery for Target
They describe their initial reaction to being approached by Target as "a mix of emotions: humility, excitement, nervousness and awe," and have nothing but praise for the collaboration process. "We worked closely with the team at Target for almost a year, making sure we not only brought to life the feeling and spirit of the Polka Dog Bakery, but to make sure the look and quality of the collection met everyone's standards and was truly representative of us and of Target."

Polka Dog Bakery for Target
The brand's new line with Target comprises treats, accessories and a collection of leads, with a focus on bright, fun colours and healthy, natural ingredients. "Of course, treats are Polka Dog Bakery's signature, so the natural treat line we developed with Target is especially exciting for us and is very representative of our brand. But the fun, nostalgic toys and the candy stripe collars and brightly coloured accessories speak to our overall style."

Maintaining Rugs Melbourne – The Do’s and Don’ts

Rugs Melbourne Rugs Melbourne is a bounty only when maintained properly. Follow the do’s and don’ts and keep them ever shinning.

Regular care is what is required to keep your rugs Melbourne always stylish and in full bloom. The beautiful rugs that have cost you a lot should not feel left out. They demand your attention not only look-wise but also cleaning-wise. If you decide to store a rug for a long period away from sunlight or light air, you must first vacuum it. Broom it afterwards. The rugs are always very prone to insect damage. Use mothballs or tobacco to keep them away while the rug remains locked up inside.

Now we move on to the do’s and don’ts of maintaining rugs Melbourne.

The Do’s of Maintain Rugs

· Rotate rug 180o every year or every month, depending on the use.

· If there is a water spill, dry it up at once with a hairdryer set at moderate temperature.

· The rugmust be washed by a professional every 2-5 years depending on the use.

· Proper padding should be given under the rug. Contact the retailer for more details.

The Don’ts of Maintaining Rugs Melbourne

· Try not to stay away from the carpet. Walk on it regularly.

· Never scrub an area rug.

· Old stains are better cleaned by professionals and not you.

· General carpet-cleaning companies shouldn’t be the responsibility of cleaning your rug.

Now we go into the details of rug maintenance. You rotate rugs at regular intervals to expose all parts of the rug uniformly to sunlight and air. Moreover, every part of the rug should be used. This results in uniform fading. You don’t want one part to be colorful and the other part to be discolored or one part to be fluffy and the other part to be sick to the bones. In case of food, alcohol or soft drink spills, use salt or baking soda to absorb the color. Then use a vacuum cleaner to clean it. Next use a dry towel to dry the area.

Rugs Melbourne should have enough padding below to both stabilize and protect them. Using professional help in cleaning the rug once in a while is also very important to protect the beauty of the rug. Moreover, dust dirt and broken fiber gets stuck inside and damage the base. Professionals use special equipments to clean the rugs. They first take out the particles stuck inside the carpet. Next they take a surface-to base approach for repairing and cleaning rugs Melbourne.

HBL Blog of the Week: Toildrops

Toildrops is a webzine which focuses on sustainable design concepts, categorised by very loose themes such as haptic, paper, water and food. This arrangement encourages more organic browsing than the average blog; we recommend it for CMF inspiration in particular. Posted in Blog of the Week, Materials, Product Design | Comments Off

Real Fake Fur by Sophy Stoenner

Textiles graduate Sophy Stoenner creates sophisticated, 1920s-inspired trimmings using animal hair and dander that has been humanely gathered - either naturally shed by the animal or combed out by hand.

Stoenner then uses a range of methods of material manipulation, alongside processes like hair extensions and lace making, to create each piece. By taking hair from animals in an ethical way, her practice is a fresh alternative to conventional, and often controversial, fur production.

For more designs incorporating fur and hair, read our Fur-nishings report. Posted in Designer Profile, Materials, Student and Graduate | Comments Off
